In 1995 and 1996, the remains of the Roman temple – Augusteum and 17 marble sculptures of different sizes were discovered on the site of Plečaš’s barn. This exceptional find inspired the idea of creating a museum that would present archaeological remains and other artifacts.

The Archaeological Museum of Narona, the first museum in Croatia built in situ, was opened in 2007 after complex construction works. The museum has won several awards, including the “Vladimir Nazor” award for architectural design and the “Blue Flower” award for its contribution to Croatia’s tourist offer.
The museum actively participates in cultural events such as “Museum Night” and International Museum Day, and organizes the cultural event “Naronita Cultural Summer” during the summer months, which includes theater performances, exhibitions, concerts and book presentations.
